Welcome to the Coromandel Area School website which gives you the opportunity to learn about our programmes and the core values which guide our school community.

We believe that the fundamental role of any school is to foster achievement. We emphasize social, sporting and cultural achievements, but above all, we aim to support and challenge every student academically. We aim at ensuring that students complete their schooling with nationally recognized qualifications enabling further education and the ability to compete equally for jobs with other school leavers. We provide educational experiences which broaden students’ horizons and create awareness of the many opportunities available. As an area school, we have the scope to provide continuity and cohesion in education.

We expect students to be ready to learn. We therefore seek to foster self management and personal goal-setting, We recognize that learning is an active process, dependent upon engagement from both the learner and the teacher.

We provide a safe learning environment with high expectations of behaviour and firm discipline to ensure these standards. We provide rich learning tasks and aim at encouraging a love of learning within each student.

The wonderful historic, physical and creative environment of the Coromandel Peninsula gives a rich context and focus for learning. We take the opportunity to build environmental awareness, to deliver programmes based on adventure and experience based learning. This is structured around a core of high expectations for student achievement in literacy and numeracy.

It is an exciting time at Coromandel Area School with the development of our new Strategic Plan for the years 2008-2010. This is the blue-print for our future. In partnership with parents and community, we aspire to education caring, confident, articulate, well-qualified leavers who are ready to succeed in the rapidly changing environment of the twenty first century.
